District III FBLA Chapter News
Harmony Grove High School-Camden
Golden Days of October
Members of the Harmony Grove FBLA Chapter, in Camden, Arkansas were extremely busy the first few months of the year meeting every Wednesday during both lunch periods. Officers kicked off the school year by participating in the FBLA Local Chapter Officer Training Webinar hosted by the National Officers on September 29. With the knowledge and inspiration gained from this meeting, officers decided to “Go for the Gold” and began working on their Program of Work. Membership recruitment, fundraising, and community service were at the top of the to do list. Letters were passed out at registration and Laney Bounds, our District 3 President and State Vice-President greeted and recruited members during registration. The first 20 members that joined received donuts. Recruitment strategies also included candy grams, a picnic at the park on October 15, and a tailgating party at the home football game, October 21, against Fordyce. As a result, Harmony Grove recruited 73 members and submitted National dues on October 23. Harmony Grove FBLA members also completed one fundraiser during the month of October and were able to raise ? on “Pink Out” shirts in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The first 20 |
members that sold 5 shirts were awarded attendance at CTSO Day at the Fair. Teachers and club members, including FBLA, decorated pumpkins. The student body put money in a jar in front of their favorite pumpkin, October 24-26, resulting in a collection of $1,300 which was donated to “Hearts for Hornets”. Funds were used for food, clothing and medical expenses for students in need.
On October 25, Harmony Grove FBLA designed and constructed 2 games for the community wide Fall Festival. Arm bands were sold at the gate for $5.00. The National Guard, Fire Department, and local businesses also supported this event and HG members raised $250. The very next day, October 26, a combined total of 100 Mid-level and Sr. High Harmony Grove members celebrated “Spirit Day” at the District 3 Fall Conference in Stuttgart, Arkansas—known as the “Rice and Duck Capital of the World”. District 3 collected $700 in a Miracle Minute fundraiser for the Arkansas Children’s Hospital. These activities were publicized on the school website and Google Classroom.
